about
Hi. I'm Theresa. Loving wife to an amazing husband and mother to three precious littles. I am fueled by connecting with my people, great design, delicious food, traveling adventures, and the Sun. I believe great design is the creation of your experience. Considering fundamental details such as how you move through a space, where the light sources fall, and your impact upon entry, to name a few, are the foundation of my process. While the spaces I create are highly customized, they are not pretentious or fussy. My projects have been described as organic meets tailored, relaxed yet refined, curated with detail and fervor.
You may have seen my work featured in Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles, shared on Veranda.com, and HouseBeautiful.com. In 2021 I was honored to be named a recipient of Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles Bath of the Year award. I was grateful and humbled yet again to be awarded the Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles Kitchen of the Year award for 2022.

My family and I have lived in our home for over 15 years. I have been wanting to update several rooms for years but didn’t even know where to start. I had previously reached out to other designers but received very little response or interest. I saw Theresa’s post online detailing her services and decided to contact her on a whim. It was the best decision of 2019! Theresa called me within a few hours and we had an appointment within a few days. I am a total newbie to working with a designer of any kind - and do NOT have an artist eye myself. Through conversations with Theresa (and sharing of my many Pinterest boards), she was able to not only capture my “vision” - she enhanced it! Theresa was able to create my perfect living space, paying equal attention to all details big and small. Placement, color, shape, aesthetic and functionality were part of every decision that was made. What started out as remodeling my office turned into essentially redoing my entire first and second floor, including painting, floors, completely redoing my master bath, extending my existing closet into the closet of my dreams, several kitchen updates, new front door and redoing upstairs bathrooms. None of that includes handpicking all new furniture and accessories. Theresa not only did the designs, she also managed the contractor crew (due to some crazy circumstances, she went WAY above and beyond). It was a three month project with plenty of things that went smooth - and a few unexpected hiccups (I now know what custom glass shower panels shattering sound like!). BUT throughout it all, Theresa was calm, cool and collected. She was a pro and made sure I was comfortable and getting the house I had wanted for so long. I cannot say enough great things about my experience working with Theresa. She and her services are worth every penny. I love my house and am already starting to plan the next project (basement!).

I have to laugh as I watch the video of me freaking out over this fresh find. Y'all know I geek out over natural stone. But really, this stuff is so special. IT'S BLUE ONYX! Who needs me to create a back lit bar out of this gorgeousness?! Or a waterfall console with inset architectural lighting? Or a fireplace wall? Or the most gorgeous coffee table? Clearly, I'll bring the ideas. Let me know when you're ready. 😎 Swipe to see an assortment of gorgeous slabs I got to explore last week. PS....isn't Denoche the sweetest for showing off this stone while back lit?! Having vendor relationships always makes for a smoother experience for all. In the end, I get to create incredible custom designs for my wonderful clients while working with wonderful vendors. And that my friends, feels like winning.
Last night at the @southeasternshowhouse @maryhannahrobinson and I did our best to grab a couple of photos/videos of me sharing my work and ended up with more than a few outtakes of me NOT nailing it. 😅 (Swipe to see) Hannah, you're a patient and generous friend. Thank you and I owe you more banana bread! As for the video ..stay tuned, folks. I have some editing to do in my near future!
There are a few new faces here, so I thought I would share my top 10 favorite photos of our recently completed #projectnorthridge (not an easy task as our exceedingly talented photographer @emilyfollowillphotographer makes everything look so wonderful). Two of the spaces in this project have become award winning through Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles. In July 2021 we were featured for winning their "Bath of the Year" award and additionally the kitchen from this same project won the "Kitchen of the Year" award and became a "CoverGirl" for their January 2022 issue. It has been a joy to experience the validation of a vision that comes to life. Being recognized for the work has been a cherry on top of our design sundae. We hope you love it too. Do you have a standout photo or space that speaks to you? Design: @theresaoryinteriors Photography: @emilyfollowillphotographer
My husband gives me the hardest time when I go full geek mode over the details. I can't help it. I curate spaces with fervor. But you know when I get really enthusiastic? When I've found a true craftsman who appreciates and respects the nuances and intricacies of the work as much as I do. Look out! My mind starts spinning with custom pieces and creative solutions we could navigate together. I got to go see one of my absolute favorites at his new shop today. Congratulations @livingston_metalworks, your new facility is awesome and the work you do is even better. It's always inspiring to see what you and your team are churning out. Pictured here is the solid brass frame Kyle & his team custom-made to surround an abstract I commissioned from @susankennedystudio in 2021. Her artwork was gorgeous and perfectly scaled over the 10 ft long sofa, but it needed another layer to be set apart off the wall. Enter @livingston_metalworks and my idea for a simplistic but dimensional frame and.... voila. Isn't she lovely?! Side note, I LOVE the way natural brass patinas. So. Stinking. Good. 🙌 So, what do you geek out over that you also catch a hard time for? Maybe the better question is, would you geek out over a custom solid brass frame and the person who made it....or is that just me?! ☺️ Design by @theresaoryinteriors Photography by @emilyfollowillphotographer

When your dear friend (I'm talking carpooling each other's kids to Pre-K kind of dear) also becomes your trusted and WONDERFUL bookkeeper you know God has sent you a gift. Then she turns around and sends you flowers, knowing you're having a big week and you are reminded of just how special that gift is. I'm so grateful for you @alipinno22. Design by: Theresa Ory

This primary suite got an upgrade from Theresa Ory Interiors pre-covid! It seems like a lifetime ago, thankfully the design still feels relevant. 🙌 My client has shared how completely grateful they were to have a beautiful space to call home as they quarantined. Knowing that my passion for interiors ultimately translates to helping others simply brings me joy. Swipe to see the one little before pic I managed to get of the bathroom. Want to know a secret?.... The vessels in the glass door upper cabinetry in these photos deceive your eye. I'll explain... It's hard to see in these photos, but the cabinetry to the right of the sink is the same style and layout as that to the left, with two exceptions. On the right, the cabinets are much deeper and they are turned 90*. The cabinetry to the left is in a smaller section of the kitchen, requiring cabinetry to be 10 inches more shallow than the right. Both sides, have upper cabinets with glass doors which help to provide a lighter feeling overall, but finding a vessel that would fill the openings properly and match the color, texture, and depth needed was going to be tricky. I knew I wanted the item to feel calming, have a large presence and be repetitive. What large vessel would fit well in both cabinets when one was so much more shallow? Oh, and getting a flat(ish) item wouldn't work because the cabinets are lit, and the cast shadow was a dead giveaway that they didn't fill the void. My solution? Buy something that fits the width and depth of the larger cabinets that could be modified. Enter ****paper machete vessels**** Yep. Calming color, rich in texture. Perfect in scale and easily cut. Those vessels in the upper cabinet on the left have been sliced off from behind to fit the shallow cabinetry, thus deceiving your eye into symmetry and a deeper cavity than exists. Shhhh.....don't tell anybody. It's our secret. ☺️ Design by @theresaoryinteriors Photography by @emilyfollowillphotographer
You may have noticed, I have a thing for curves. From unexpected shower walls to bell curved range hoods to elliptical openings and more, I love how softening a line can create elegance and timelessness in a space. Curvature also blends the light. That one really gets me every time, because as the form moves, so does it's shadow thus alleviating harsh transitions. Of course there is a place for a good clean modern line too...but we'll save that for another post. 😉 Which of these curves is your stand-out favorite? It's tax season, y'all. Need I say more? I can design award winning spaces all day, but taxes??...taxes are the death of me! 🤦 Can someone PLEASE come rescue me?! Theresa Ory Interiors is now hiring: if you enjoy words like numbers 🙄, transactions 😲, and reconciliations 🤢, we have an opening for you! No seriously, I will pay you. **I actually have an accountant. It still hurts. 😂 Humor me and tell me I'm not alone y'all?! Design by @theresaoryinteriors Photography by @emilyfollowillphotographer
One final space to share from #projectnorthridge; the laundry! Utilitarian spaces need to work hard, but that doesn't mean they have to be ugly. Can I get an AMEN?! 🙌 This space is hard working with cubbies for the kids to drop their bags and shoes, food and water for the pup, and a drink filling water station for endless soccer practices⚽. All this while looking good with custom fitted cabinetry and herringbone marble floors. Oh yeah, tell me what you think of the water fountain?! My heart is with all families seeking asylum, fighting for their freedoms and missing or worrying about their loved ones today. I awoke to this peaceful view of fresh flowers and photos of my babies this weekend, knowing there are many without that privilege right now. Sending all my love and support to #Ukraine and to her people and praying for peace.
It's been hoppin' around here with a big photo shoot filling my days and heart this week. It's always so exciting to prepare for the shoot. Gathering flowers (I mean, how could I not love this perk of the job?!) and knocking on neighbors doors to ask if I might have a piece or two of their bamboo is always an adventure. 😉 I can't wait to share more with you from this week with you. For now, you can check out my stories as I share some sneak peek and behind the scenes from the week. Side note: My husband can barely stand the way I constantly forage. Pretty sure I embarrass him regularly. This beautiful ranunculus arrangement is from my most recent photo shoot for #projectnorthridge by @funkymountainflowers. Aren't those Ranunculus just stupid pretty? And while we're on the happy subject of flowers, what's your favorite? Design by @theresaoryinteriors Photography by @emilyfollowillphotographer
Sharing the Dining Room from #projectnorthridge with you for the first time today. Adding the detail of warmth and beauty in the form of white oak to this tray ceiling truly elevated this room. Having a custom made selenite chandelier, sculptural dining chairs, and oversized commissioned art didn't hurt either. 😉 I think at the end of the day, the best part about this space is that while it is beautiful on its own, it is genuinely meant to be an attractive backdrop to what really matters in life. This is where we gather. Share food and drink and the stories from our day. The furniture, fixtures and finishes of this space were designed to encourage the feeling of ease, comfort, and a sense of welcome. The thick trundle table and sculptural chairs give a relaxed yet refined sense to the space. The oak on the ceiling provides a more intimate appeal as it highlights an architectural detail while simultaneously grounding the room. If creating a relaxed and intimate environment can help encourage loved ones to gather at the end of their day, I'm here for it. Every time. 🥰 Which of those details speaks to you?! Sound off below. When I was designing this kitchen, I was thinking of the warm and welcoming atmosphere loved ones would feel whilst they gathered, ate, drank, laughed and made memories together. This is where family happens. Being a part of creating that experience is one of my greatest honors. Whats the virdict? Could you do life in this kitchen? Who's ready for the ✨ weekend ✨?! Plenty of Zzzzz's ahead for this girl while I fight off a cold. Here's hoping your headed into a great weekend full of rest and relaxation too. What are your weekend plans? Design by: @theresaoryinteriors Photography by: @emilyfollowillphotographer
I'm headed to the @nkbageorgia (National Kitchen and Bath) event tonight at Atlanta's @subzerogroup_atlanta showroom, feeling grateful for winning Atlanta Homes and Lifestyles "kitchen of the Year" award with this #ProjectNorthridge kitchen. There are so many incredibly talented artists, craftsmen and designers creating amazing spaces in this industry. Being counted among them is an honor. Saying hi to friends old and new at tonights event is icing on the cake. Design by @theresaoryinteriors Photography by @emilyfollowillphotographer
Today is the prettiest sunny winters day here in Atlanta. There is still some snow on the ground from our snowfall a few days ago, and it's been beautiful. Moving from the Midwest has had me appreciating the weather here in the South, but I didn't realize I was actually missing the snow untill it began falling! There was a sense of peace that washed over me watching those gorgeous flakes float to their resting place. The sunlight today is quite similar to that of the day these photos were taken. Pouring into this master sweet at #projectnorthridge and washing over the linen drapes and white oak floors. It gives me that same sense of serenity as this past weekend's snowfall. Creating spaces that curate an experience is the essence of what Theresa Ory Interiors strives for. I always ask my clients, "How do you want the space to make you feel?" Building that feeling with material selections, mindfulness in of scale and flow and of course sources of light all go into the making of creating that feeling. And when it all comes together and my clients are thrilled, well, that's the best feeling of all. 🙌 Design by @Theresaoryinteriors Photography by @emilyfollowillphotographer
I'm sharing a bathroom from #projectnorthridge and a #protip with you today, that I have not shared before. For the bathrooms debut, I thought you might enjoy a little before an after. It's rather small, so I kept the existing footprint as it functioned well. I took care to use materials in the renovation that would allow the space to feel larger than it really was. So here is your pro tip: My go to move in any small bathroom with a shower curtain is to hang a custom curtain that reaches from floor to ceiling. You would be amazed at how lengthening the shower curtain will take your eye up and visually expand the space! I'll share how materiality impacted the space next time we chat about it. Until then, Happy Wednesday peeps. Designer: @theresaoryinteriors Photography: @emilyfollowillphotographer
I think there is something special about an entryway. It's the intimate setting, beyond the first impression of curb appeal. It's where we receive loved ones, friends and neighbors. And where we invite those people to take a glimpse behind the curtain into our daily lives. Establishing aesthetics upon entry gives guests an understanding of our voice our style and how they might feel throughout our homes. For me, drawing someone in and helping them to feel comfortable and loved in my home, is the goal. As I designed the space for #projectnorthridge I became excited about framing the openings with softer curves & including earthy pieces on a crisp backdrop. It feels like a quiet and calming atmosphere. Until, of course, one of my kids runs by in a game of tag. 😉 How do you like to greet your guests? Design by @Theresaoryinteriors Photography by @Emilyfollowillphotographer
Welcome to the living room at #projectnorthridge. I commissioned this gorgeous abstract art from @susankennedystudio and wrapped it in a dimensional brass frame made by @livingston_metalworks. Putting them together was like watching magic unfold. Then, I shared a loaf of banana bread as a thank you to the neighbor who gifted me these Crepe Myrtle stems for a sculptural element in the space. Yes, you read that correctly. I am not above using baked goods for the benefit of my designs. 😉 I just love the sculptural dried naturals juxtaposed with the brass framed abstract piece Susie named "Etheria #1". Isn't it amazing how many incredibly talented artisans and craftspeople there are in the world. I feel so grateful for the talent that seems to be swimming around Atlanta. Lord knows, I couldn't do what I do without them. 🙌 Design by @theresaoryinteriors Photography by @emilyfollowillphotographer
